Corey Anderson, Morne Morkel, and Shaun Marsh made it to the final list of IPL auction?

New Zealand allrounder Corey Anderson, former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel and Australian batsman Shaun Marsh. Do these names mean anything to you? At the 2021 IPL auction in Chennai on February 18, these players can be found on the shortlist of 292 players as they are part of 17 new names. The shortened auction pool from 1,097 includes 164 Indian players, 125 overseas players, and three associated countries.

What is known today?

Including 22 foreign players, a total of 61 slots have to be crammed with the eight franchises’ aid. Apart from the other eight listed below, there is one particular pair – Kedar Jadhav and Harbhajan Singh. They have recorded the most base price of INR two crore (the US $274,000). The other eight are Moeen Ali, Glenn Maxwell, Liam Plunkett, Steven Smith (both Australia), Sam Billings, Mark Wood (England) and Jason Roy, and Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan. Also, Colin Ingram, originally part of the highest base price, is no longer included there.

The auction itself is scheduled to start at 1500 IST. For both internationals and uncapped players, their names come down based on their specialisation. First, come the batsmen, then the allrounders, then the wicketkeeper-batsmen, after them the fast bowlers and finally the spin bowlers. IPL said all this in a note to the franchise and noted the accelerated process would start after 87 players.

Morne Morkel

“The accelerated process will cover all unsold and undeclared players. In doing so, the undeclared players will appear first.”

The following four players can be found among the 17 new names added subsequently at the franchise’s request: Anderson, Morkel, Marsh, and Australian fast bowler Jack Wildermuth.

Playing for Punjab Kings XI, left-handed batsman Marsh quoted his base price as INR 1.5 crore (about $206,000).

Morkel, a former South African fast bowler who played for three IPL franchises, also listed the same base price.

His team-mate, who has played for Australia in two T20Is, Wildermuth, in turn, listed his base price as INR 50 lakhs.

Anderson, who last played for the Barbados Tridents in the 2020 Caribbean Premier League, priced himself at INR 75 lakhs ($103,000).

As for the other players, the situation is as follows. Noor Ahmad, the youngest player, 16 and recently played in the BBL for Melbourne Renegades, has named his base price at INR 20 lakhs. Hrivitso Kense, the youngest Hindu in the pool, is at the INR 20 lakhs’ lowest base price.

The most senior player in the auction was 42-year-old spinner Nayan Doshi, son of former Indian left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi, who resided in the UK and had a base bid of INR 20 lakhs.

New names include Sadiq Kirmani, son of former Indian wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani. The 31-year-old Sadiq is also considered a wicketkeeper-batsman. However, he has played just 2 A-list matches for Karnataka.

Notably, the finishing list doesn’t include Indian bowler Sreesanth, who, not too long ago, returned to the sport after a five-year ban. Having played for Kerala in January for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Sreesanth set his own base value at INR 75 lakhs ($103,000).
