Structure of T20 Mumbai League

The tournament follows a standard round-robin format. In the inaugural season, the top four teams from the standings qualified for the semi-finals, with the top two teams competing in the ultimate final match. However, in the second season, the format underwent a modification. The teams were divided into two groups, and after the group stage, the top two teams from each group faced off in the semi-finals. The victorious teams from the semi-finals then advanced to the grand finale, where they vied for the coveted title.

Points Structure:

  • Win – 2 points;
  • Loss – 0 points;

In the following year, the second season of the league took place in May 2019. This time, the competition expanded, featuring eight teams. The final match saw the North Mumbai Panthers securing the title after defeating the SoBo SuperSonics by 12 runs.

T20 Mumbai League Teams

Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs

The team made its debut in the T20 Mumbai League during the second season in 2019. Placed in Group A, they performed admirably, securing the second position in the group stage with three wins out of five matches they contested. Under the captaincy of Dhawal Kulkarni, they displayed promising performances in their maiden season, earning a spot in the semi-finals.

However, despite their commendable efforts, they faced a setback in the semi-final encounter against SoBo Supersonics, losing the match by a margin of 26 runs. Despite this defeat, their debut season showcased their potential and established them as a noteworthy addition to the tournament.

ARCS Andheri

ARCS Andheri had a tough start in the tournament’s inaugural season, finishing last in the standings with only one win. However, their second season brought a positive change, securing the second spot in Group B with four wins out of five matches and advancing to the semi-finals. Sadly, they faced defeat against North Mumbai Panthers in the semi-final. Kevin Almeida captained the team during their journey.

Eagle Thane Strikers

Eagle Thane Strikers made their debut in the 2019 season of the tournament. They showed promise by finishing third in the Group A standings with two wins. The team was led by Aditya Tare, who had an outstanding season, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer in the entire tournament, amassing an impressive 244 runs in just five innings.

Namo Bandra Blasters

In the 2018 season, Namo Bandra Blasters displayed a strong performance, reaching the semi-finals and securing third place in the group stage with three wins out of five matches. However, their fortunes took a dip in the 2022 season, as they failed to qualify for the semi-finals and had to settle for third place in Group B with two wins. Throughout the season, the team was led by the talented captain, Shreyas Iyer.

North Mumbai Panthers

North Mumbai Panthers had a challenging start in their inaugural season, ending up at the bottom of the standings with just one win. However, the 2019 season witnessed a remarkable transformation for the team as they claimed the championship title by defeating SoBo Supersonics in the thrilling final match as they were guided by the skilled leadership of Prithvi Shaw.

SoBo Supersonics

In the 2018 season, the SoBo Supersonics secured a spot in the semi-finals but fell short of reaching the final. However, they made a strong comeback the next season, qualifying for the final and seeking revenge for their previous defeat. However, they narrowly missed out on the title as North Mumbai Panthers emerged victorious by 12 runs. Throughout their journey, the team was led by captain Jay Gokul Bista.

Shivaji Park Lions

The Shivaji Park Lions made an appearance in the final in the first season but lost the title. However, they had a dismal 2019 season as they ended the season on zero wins.

Triumph Knights Mumbai North East

They were the winners of the first season of the tournament in 2018, having beaten Shivaji Park Lions by three runs overall. They were captained by Surya Kumar Yadav.
