About Charlotte Edwards Cup
Participating in this tournament are eight teams representing different regions across England and Wales. The Women’s Regional Tournament took over the reins from the Women’s Cricket Super League in 2019. Originally, a regional T20 tournament was planned for 2020, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the season was shortened, and priority was given to the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, a 50-over tournament.
Now, the Charlotte Edwards Cup is scheduled to be held alongside the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and the Hundred, promising an exciting cricketing spectacle for fans to enjoy.

Structure of Charlotte Edwards Cup
The cricket tournament follows a conventional round-robin format, where every team competes against each of the other teams. During the group stage, a total of 28 matches are played. The teams that qualify from this stage advance to the final.
Securing the top position on the table at the conclusion of the group stage grants a direct spot in the final to the leading team. However, the teams placed second and third must vie for a place in the final through a semi-final match, determining which of them will join the table-topper in the ultimate showdown.
History of Charlotte Edwards Cup
After the 2019 season, the Women’s Regional T20 was intended to replace the Women’s Cricket Super League as part of the England and Wales Cricket Board’s plans to restructure domestic women’s cricket. The new structure included a 50-over competition, a Twenty20 competition, and the Hundred. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, only the 50-over tournament could take place at that time.
In early 2021, it was officially announced that the new Twenty20 tournament would be named the Women’s Regional T20. The plan was for this tournament to run concurrently with the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, with both competitions featuring the same participating teams. The inaugural edition of the Women’s Regional T20 was claimed by the South East Stars, while the subsequent two editions were won by the Southern Vipers.
