Structure of CSA T20 Challenge
The eight teams in the league are put together in a single group where they contest with the other teams in a double round-robin fashion. The top four teams engage in the semi-finals followed by the final match.
History of CSA T20 Challenge
Introduced in the 2003-2004 season, the CSA T20 Challenge has been a massive success since its inception, capitalising on the global surge of popularity for Twenty20 cricket. South African cricket recognized the potential and aimed to create its own domestic cup. Initially contested by six franchise teams, the tournament saw a unique addition in the 2007-2008 season when Zimbabwe participated as a seventh side.
However, in April 2019, Cricket South Africa announced that the 2018-19 edition would be the final T20 Challenge due to austerity measures and plans to restructure domestic cricket. Subsequently, it was replaced by the Mzansi Super League, a franchise-based T20 tournament, which commenced in 2018 as the country’s premier cricket league.
Unexpectedly, in February 2021, the CSA T20 Challenge resurfaced, with all matches held at Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban. This revival came in place of the 2020 Mzansi Super League, which faced cancellation due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The CSA T20 Challenge returned for the 2022/23 season, offering fans another exciting round of cricket action. However, regrettably, it marked the tournament’s final edition. Despite its popularity among cricket enthusiasts, the decision was made to conclude the CSA T20 Challenge after the 2022/23 season.

Titans
As the northernmost top-level cricket franchise in South Africa, the Titans have been a force to be reckoned with. Comprising member unions such as the Eastern Cricket Union and Northerns Cricket Union, the Titans have clinched the most titles (7) in the league’s history, including the 2022/23 season. Their home venues are SuperSport Park in Centurion and Willowmoore Park in Benoni.

This team traces its roots back to the 1890s, including the Cape Cobras franchise that existed from 2005 to 2021. After the CSA domestic reorganisation, the Western Province team re-formed for the 2021/22 season, adopting their traditional name once again.
