Structure of Tanzania T10 League
The structure of the Tanzania T10 League is very simple. The six teams participating in Tanzania T10 League are Rhino Challengers, Simba Heroes, Twiga Masters, Tembo Rangers, Chui Riders and Buffalo Gladiators. Each of these teams will play against each other only once in a single round-robin format. Hence, every team will play a minimum of five games. After 15 group stage games the top four teams will enter a series of playoffs. The playoffs commenced on Sunday, May 2 and concluded on Tuesday, May 4. This stage involves two qualifiers and an eliminator match. The first qualifier is played between the top two teams and the winners head to the final. While the eliminator is played between the third and fourth-placed teams and the winner heads to the second qualifier where they face the team that suffers a defeat in the first qualifier. The grand finale is played between the winners of the first and second qualifiers.
Tanzania T10 League Points System
The teams are arranged based on the total points. Points are awarded as follows:
- Win: 2 points;
- Loss: 0 points;
- No Result/Abandonment: 1 point.
History of Tanzania T10 League
The inaugural season of the Tanzania T10 League took place between 25th April to 4th May 2021. The tournament was arranged for head coach Steve Tikolo to assess his player options for the African sub-regional qualifiers for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The qualifiers were played from October 25-31. Six teams participated in the cricket tournament. A total of 15 group stage games were conducted followed by a series of playoffs. Chui Riders, Buffalo Gladiators, Rhino Challengers and Simba Heroes qualified for the playoffs. However, only the first qualifier was completed while the eliminator, Qualifier 2 and the Grand Finale was abandoned. Chui Riders were declared as winners as they topped the group stage and also won the first qualifier. Buffalo Gladiators were declared as runner-up as they came 2nd in the group stage.
