About Women’s Super 50 Series
Commencing in 2015, the tournament initially combined both 50-over and Twenty20 formats and featured three participating teams: Dragons, Scorchers, and Typhoons. However, in 2020, the tournament underwent changes, reducing the number of teams to two and adopting a sole 50-over format. Then, in 2021, the Super Series underwent further modifications, being split into distinct 50-over and Twenty20 tournaments. By 2022, the competition reverted to its original three-team format. In 2023, the tournament was rebranded to Evoke Super 50 Cup.
Throughout its history, the Scorchers have been a dominant force, clinching an impressive total of 7 titles. Meanwhile, the Dragons have secured 3 titles, and the Typhoons have celebrated victory once.

Structure of Women’s Super 50 Series
The 50-Over tournament adopts a double round-robin format, ensuring that each participating team competes against all others twice during the season. Rather than employing knockout stages or playoffs, the tournament operates as a league system with pre-arranged match fixtures. Teams accumulate points based on their performance, and the ultimate victor is determined by the team with the highest point tally at the conclusion of the tournament.
Points Structure:
- Win: 4 points;
- Tie: 2 points;
- Loss: 0 points;
- Abandoned/No Result: 2 points.
History of Women’s Super 50 Series
The tournament began in 2015, featuring three teams – Dragons, Scorchers, and Typhoons – with no specific geographical base. The competition included 8 matches per team, with each team playing the others twice in both 50-over and Twenty20 formats, all combined in a single table. Scorchers emerged as the inaugural winners with 5 victories.
In 2016, the tournament maintained a similar format, but with teams playing only two T20 matches each, now sponsored by Toyota Ireland. The Dragons claimed their first title that year. In 2017, teams played 10 games each, and Scorchers secured their second title.
The format remained unchanged for 2018 and 2019, with Dragons winning both tournaments, claiming their second and third titles. However, in 2020, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament had only two teams (Scorchers and Typhoons) and featured only 50-over cricket. The Typhoons won their first title, decided on Net Run Rate after both teams won four matches each.
In 2021, due to ongoing pandemic effects, the tournament split into the Super 50 Cup (50-over) and Super 20 Trophy (Twenty20), still involving two teams, and sponsored by Arachas. Scorchers triumphed in both sections, winning four out of seven 50-over matches in June and four out of six T20 matches in August.
In 2022, Dragons rejoined the competition, and Scorchers continued their dominance, securing victories in both the T20 and 50-over titles.

Women’s Super 50 Series Teams
Scorchers
Scorchers, an Irish women’s cricket team, participates in the Women’s Super Series, featuring a roster of top players from across Ireland. Led by captain Gaby Lewis and coached by Claire Terblanche, the team has achieved remarkable success, securing victory in seven Super Series tournaments.
Established in 2015 for the Women’s Super 3s, Scorchers made a stunning debut, clinching the inaugural tournament with five wins out of eight matches. Captain Kim Garth’s outstanding performance earned her the Player of the Tournament award. In 2016, Scorchers displayed a strong performance, finishing second in the group with two victories in six games, with notable contributions from Lucy O’Reilly and Una Raymond-Hoey.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 tournament saw only two teams – Scorchers and Typhoons – competing in eight 50-over matches. Both teams won four matches each, but the Typhoons claimed the title with a slight advantage in Net Run Rate.
Dragons
Dragons, an Irish women’s cricket team, actively participates in the Women’s Super Series. They were part of the tournament from its inception in 2015 until 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition was reduced to two teams, and Dragons did not take part. In 2022, the team made a comeback to the Super Series, and interestingly, they now adopted a “Northern Irish focus” despite not having a geographical base previously. Dragons boast an impressive record, securing three Super Series titles in 2016, 2018, and 2019.
Comprising some of the finest players in Irish cricket, Dragons were skillfully led by captain Mary Waldron and coached by Rob O’Connor. During their debut season, the Dragons performed admirably, finishing second in a group of three teams, achieving four victories. They are currently captained by Leah Paul.
Typhoons
Typhoons, an Irish women’s cricket team, actively competes in the Women’s Super Series under the captaincy of Rebecca Stokell and the guidance of coach Paul Davidge. Their breakthrough came in 2020 when they clinched their first Super Series title.
During their initial season, the Typhoons struggled, finishing at the bottom of the league with only two wins out of eight matches. However, they displayed improvement in 2017, securing the second position in the group with four wins from ten matches. This trend continued in 2018, again securing four victories to finish as runners-up. However, in 2019, they faced a setback, returning to the bottom of the table with 8 points. They also finished as the runners-up in 2021 and 2022.
